Superintendent Newsletter November 2026

Dear Walnut Creek School District Staff and Families,

As we head into November, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve learned by spending time in our schools. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been fortunate to visit many classrooms, hear from students during student panels, and talk with families about their experiences in our schools. Thank you for telling me what’s working and where we can do better.

I especially want to thank our teachers and classified staff. We have exceptional people in this district, and I see their talent and care every time I’m on campus. I see it in the way our teachers help students work through a challenging lesson, in the way our classified staff know our students by name, and the way our school office staff help families get what they need. I see the skill and consideration they bring to that work, and I don’t take it for granted.

I’m also grateful to our families for all they do to help students get to school each day. Districtwide attendance was 96.7% in the first months of school. And during the WCEF Read-a-Thon, our students gave us another reason to celebrate, logging more than 1.1 million minutes of reading. At our first Community Partnership Council meeting, district leaders, parent organization leaders, and WCEF representatives talked about what’s working at our schools and how we can learn from and support one another.

The 2026 California School Dashboard results are out, and I’m proud of how well our district did!  We’ll take a closer look at the results at a future Governing Board meeting, but in the meantime visit WCSD’s California School Dashboard for more information.

Schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day. Thank you to the veterans in our community and to their families for your service and sacrifice.

With Thanksgiving later this month, I hope the break gives you time to slow down, rest, and enjoy being with family and friends. I’m grateful to be part of this district and to work alongside you.

Warmly,
Jon Campopiano
Superintendent
